We are all looking forward to the Annual Meeting in Stowe, Vermont, September 12-14, 2014. We have an exciting program planned and we will try to continue some of the panel discussions that have been popular in recent years. Though the final program form is not totally done yet, the several major features are all set. More...

The winter of 2014 will be one to remember. I never heard of the term “polar vortex” but all of us who live in New England are now quite familiar with the term. This winter has been long, cold, with lots of snow. I think my southern New England and coastal Maine colleagues have shoveled more snow than we have here in Vermont. We had a pretty severe ice storm in the beginning of the winter. I had to take a torch to open my mailbox! The skiing and riding has been exceptional this winter and I have included some beautiful photos from the top of Mt. Mansfield in Vermont. More...

Foundation News, including Scholars Research Grant
During the past two years, the New England Surgical Scholars Foundation has been reenergized and reorganized, largely under the direction of Past President Dr. John Sutton. The Bylaws have been rewritten, and new initiatives have been developed. The goal of the Foundation is to contribute progressively to advances in education and research in concert with the NESS. And now, due to many generous contributions from NESS members this past year, the Foundation is able to offer a new Scholars Research Grant, which will allow the recipient to pursue research in diverse areas of medicine.
