As I sit writing this note, it is still below 30° in Boston and there is still snow on the ground. It has been quite a winter. However, just like nights in the Emergency Room, you can't stop the clock and warmer weather will be here soon. I hope those who ski had a great winter and for those who don't, I hope you had a bit of time outside of the New England environs. The New England Surgical Society has never been on better footing. It appears that Boston has beaten Vermont for the most snow received this winter. I understand this winter provided Boston the greatest snowfall ever recorded. At my home in South Burlington we have had an average snowfall year, however the green mountains are 20” above average for late March. Excellent spring skiing and riding will be had for all. More...

A total of 31 papers were submitted to the Journal of the American College of Surgeons from the 2014 Annual Meeting. There were 21 Podium, 2 Brief and 8 Posters submitted. Eleven were accepted: 7 Podium, 1 Brief and 3 Posters. The accepted papers will appear in the June special NESS issue of JACS, with many accompanied by Invited Commentaries written by members of our Society. More...


Notice of 2015 Annual Meeting and Call for Abstracts
2015 Annual Meeting and Call for Abstracts
The NESS’ 96th Annual Meeting will take place September 25-27, 2015, at the Hyatt Regency Newport, Rhode Island. The abstract submission site is now open; the deadline for submissions is April 6, 2015. Should the NESS receive enough abstracts from a particular specialty (or specialties), the Society will schedule a Specialty Session, the focus of which will be determined by the number and quality of abstracts submitted. The 22nd Annual Surgical Resident and Fellow Research Presentation Day will take place Friday, May 8, 2015, at the Waltham Woods Conference Center within the Massachusetts Medical Society Headquarters in Waltham, Massachusetts. Per NESS By-Laws, attendance at the spring Research Presentation Day meets the Society’s active participation requirement, so please consider attending the 2015 program! More...

Foundation News, including Scholars Research Grant
The New England Surgical Scholars Foundation aims to contribute in a progressive fashion to advances in education and research in concert with the NESS. As of December 31, 2014 the assets of the Foundation were $246,094. The Foundation has encouraged contributions from the NESS leadership to serve as an example to the membership. Contributions did increase from $16,180 in 2013 to $22,030 in 2014. More ...
