NESS Scholars Foundation Research Grant
<< Return to awards page
The NESS Scholars Foundation has established the Scholars Research Grant, to advance innovative surgical research via multiyear support. The recipient of this grant will be awarded $10,000 USD in the initial year; the grant can then be renewed by review of the NESS Scholars Foundation Board of Directors for a succeeding year, for up to an additional $10,000 USD.
The goal of the NESS Scholar’s Foundation is to support junior faculty (academic level of assistant professor or in their first eight (8) years of clinical practice) in their endeavors to contribute to the scientific knowledge as it relates to the discipline of surgery. Grants can be submitted by NESS members in good standing or should be sponsored by an NESS member (again, in good standing); furthermore, applicants must practice/reside within the New England States.
Award
Following the review of applications by the NESS Scholars Foundation Board, the successful applicant will be notified and then awarded first-year funding of 10,000 USD in July 2022.
An interim progress report is due to the NESS Scholars Foundation by May 1, 2023, so that second-year funding of $10,000 USD may be approved and provided in July 2023. Assuming approval of second-year funding, it is expected that the activities associated with the award will be completed by June 30, 2024, and that the awardee will both provide a final written report by July 31, 2024, and present an oral report at the time of the 2024 Annual Meeting of the NESS, September 20-22, 2024 at the Hilton Burlington Lake Champlain in Burlington, VT.
The award is not to diminish or replace the customary, expected compensation or benefits; nor is any portion of the award to be used for institutional indirect costs.
