Dear NESS Members,

As we have moved from 2020 to 2021, may we all see a light at the end of the tunnel and hope for in-person connections with NESS friends and colleagues in the coming months. To all of our NESS members who continue to fight the pandemic while caring for patients with non-COVID-19 related surgical illness, a heartfelt thank you from all of us.

The pandemic has compelled many changes in our lives, but there is much the virus cannot do. It cannot weaken our commitment to our patients, quell our desire to improve patient care or subdue our passion for innovative research. We saw evidence of this in September at our well attended Annual Meeting which showcased novel research, animated debate and interesting panel discussion. Seven of the resultant manuscripts have been accepted to JACS (to date) with several more manuscripts still under review.

We look forward to hearing a new body of research work at our annual resident research day on May 5, 2021. The convenient virtual format should facilitate our highest attendance ever in support of our trainees. We hope to see you there in the comfort of your home and sweatpants!

Stay healthy and safe.
Hoping to see you all, in person, in September.

My best,

Kari Rosenkranz, MD
NESS Recorder
